Lee University: concerts, theater, and a campus walk

Lee University anchors downtown Cleveland — a private Christian university with about 5,000 students, a beautiful campus, and a bigger community footprint than most people realize.

What to see

The campus itself is worth a walk: historic buildings mixed with modern ones, green spaces, and it’s right next to downtown. The university hosts concerts, theater productions, and lectures that are open to the public through the year — the School of Music in particular puts on excellent performances.

How to do it right

Check the university calendar for public events — concerts and plays are usually cheap or free. Campus is open to walk through; park downtown and stroll over. Flames athletics (basketball especially) draw good crowds in season.

Local tips

  • The Christmas and Easter music programs are local traditions and they fill up.
  • The campus bookstore has good Lee gear if you’re visiting a student.
  • It’s a dry campus in a dry-ish town — plan dinner accordingly.
